I just finished the Loving Kindness exercise and I found it to be a bit difficult for me. I am not sure if it was the distractions and interruptions that kept occurring during the exercise, but I am pretty sure that they had something to do with it. I tried to choose a time when I would not have these issues, but it seems that I have been unsuccessful thus far. I do plan to try to get through this exercise again later without interruption tonight. Maybe it will be easier with the family in bed. I would recommend all of the exercises so far to family and friends because I feel that with practice they can all be beneficial to myself as well as others.
I feel that the mental workout concept can be successful in training the mind for clarity and focus. These exercises that we have been working on for the past few weeks is a good start. These things can help us to be more involved in the training of our minds and to have more control of our thoughts and feelings. Research has shown that participating in mental workout exercises can be beneficial mentally, physically, and emotionally in the long run. I feel that if I continue to practice and include these exercises in my daily life that they will only continue to help me in all of these aspects as well.

Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteI too feel that these exercises are a good start to working on my health not only physical but mentally also. I have to say that I never really realized how strong the mind was and to be able to train the mind is such a great tool to learn. I don't know about you but the more that I do some of these exercises, the better I feel emotionally and mentally. I have been able to get rid of a lot of clutter in that last few weeks. It feels really good. I know that I have a long ways to go, but I it is a really good start. I hope you able to find a good time to practice this weeks exercise, I found it to be helpful.
Hi Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteWhat would life be without interruptions...peaceful or lonely. I am not sure myself. All I know is, that we all need a little me time. I have learned that it is ok to ask for that. Since I started back to school a little over a year and a half ago, uninterrupted time was not so easy to find. I found that this was a cause of stress in and all of itself. My solution is a "Please...not now...I just need a little me time" sign for my doorknob leading to my computer room. All of my family members know how hard I am working towards my degree. I really think that just by asking and explaining for the time has made my family and myself more respectful of each other. I have encouraged everyone to make a sign to hang when a little of me time is needed.
In conclusion, I have found peace without lonliness. Whereas, had I not been willing to explain myself and my goal, I am sure my family would have been more than a little irritated by my sign.
It is all in the kindness that we get time for our mindfullness.
Peace
Deb
Hello Stephanie
ReplyDeleteFinding 15 minutes of uninterrupted peace can be difficult. I am always amazed that I am left alone while doing some things, but others, like homework online, my kids find something to ask or tell me or fight about! I liked Stephanie O's idea of doing the loving-kindness exercise in another location, at your own pace. I am able to ride a bus to and from work, so those minutes are perfect for practicing this meditation. If you drive yourself, maybe you can practice for 5 minutes once you reach your job and before starting the schedule. Every little bit helps, so I encourage you to keep trying.
The brain is a muscle and therefore can be developed. Right now we are choosing to work on our focusing abililty. Other semesters we tackled anatomy, chemistry, etc. This idea of being able to direct your thoughts is one I have heard before. I have read many self-help books, "How to win Friends and Influence People" , "What to Say When You Talk to Yourself" and one about our "Thought Closet"(scripture based) all use this very concept. I can testify wholeheartedly as to the results. As with any exercise, brain training can be effect with consistent and persistent effort.
I hope I have encouraged you.
Remember you are blessed!
Angela
